Do you want your preaching to be more effective?

"HireMost pastors I know want to become more effective in their preaching.

They want their congregation to be energized and encouraged by God’s word. They want to give life to people through their preaching. They want all the hours they spend preparing for their message to count for their people. Here’s the thing: most congregations I know also want their pastor’s preaching to be more effective!

The question is: How can you grow to become more effective in your preaching to help your congregation grow?

Preaching more is not going to make you more effective. Even learning more about preaching is not going to make you a better preacher. If you really want to be more effective in your preaching, you need a coach. You need someone who will draw out your strengths and passions in preaching and help you shore up your weak spots. You need a coach who will walk with you on your journey of preaching to your congregation.

Great athletes don’t become great because they took a course on their sport.

They become great athletes because they have coaches who help them take better shots, throw better strikes, and kick better goals. Pastors need coaches who will help them preach better sermons. If athletes spend so much of their time with coaches who bring the best out of them for a game, why don’t pastors spend time with coaches who will bring the best out of them for their congregation? There is much more at stake for pastors in church than for athletes in a game. Pastors can’t afford not to hire a coach.

I struggled for a long time in my preaching because I was developing and giving sermons alone. It took its toll on me, my family, and my congregation. It wasn’t until I asked someone to coach me that I became more effective in my preaching. My coach helped me hear where I was strong and where I needed help in my preaching. My coach helped me by bringing out the best in me.

Pastors who hire a coach are more effective.

Pastors who hire a coach are encouraged because they see more clearly what their strengths are in preaching, and they have the benefit of consistent, personal help as they seek to be more effective through the whole process of preaching (in their study, content, delivery, and application). Pastors who hire a coach get the benefit of someone who is 100% for their personal growth without harsh critique as well as someone who will bring out God’s best in them. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned pro, every preacher needs to continue to grow in their preaching effectiveness. The gospel demands that we continue to grow in our preaching. Hiring a coach will help you become more effective in reaching your community through your sermons.
